Termite Inspections

Termites have been known to cause an incredible amount of damage to the structural components of a home or business. Dry-Rot fungus is also one of the biggest leading causes in repair cost. Victory Termite’s experts perform a thorough and comprehensive inspection looking for signs of a termite infestation and any issues that may attract them in the future.

Termite inspections are great for:

  • Homeowners

  • Homeowners selling their homes

  • Real estate agents

  • Morgage lenders

  • Investors

  • Competitive bids and more

The exterior of your property:

The grade and foundation, all exterior siding & trim, eaves, gutters & down spouts, all attached structures such as decks and patio cover's, looking for any signs of wood destroying organisms and any areas that will attract or create an issue.

The interior of your property:

Each room within the interior of your home is inspected thoroughly including but not limited to doorframes, door trims, skirtings, joinery, wood floors and walls. Bathrooms and kitchens are inspected looking for open grout lines, plumbing leaks, loose commodes and any other signs of moisture that can attract termites and or create moisture damage.

Attic:

Inspectors will access the attic and climb up on any platform available to perform a visual inspection of the attic framing and roof sheathing looking for any signs of wood destroying organisms and conducive issues.

Subarea:

Homes that have subfloors are very susceptible to termite attack. Our termite inspectors will physically inspect the subarea below the home looking at all the support framing, plumbing and foundation for any signs of termite infestation or any issues that may attract them.

Inspection overview:

The inspection findings are then detailed in a digital report with an itemized list that will be discussed with you once the inspection has been completed. The findings can also be discussed if needed over the phone at your connivence if no one is available at the time of the inspection. The termite report will highlight, but not be limited to, active termites, dry-rot repair, areas conducive to termites and termite treatment recommendations.

HOW A TYPICAL TERMITE INSPECTION IS PERFORMED

  • Make sure no soil is directly touching the exterior wood of your home. This allows termites an easy way in.

  • Keep your mulch at least 15" away from your home's foundation. This is one of a termite's favorite snacks.

  • Store firewood at least 20 feet from your home’s exterior.

  • Clear clutter from your yard.

  • Remove water-damaged or rotting wood from your yard.

  • Make sure your gutters are all in good working order.

  • Trim back hedges and tree branches from the walls of your home to allow sunlight to dry around the base of your home.

  • Install dehumidifiers in extra humid areas of your home.

  • Repair water-damaged or wet wood in the structure of your home.

TIPS TO PREVENT TERMITE INFESTATION

Termites are a destructive pest - they can cause major structural and costly damage to commercial buildings and homes. It’s incredibly important to have thorough termite inspections of your home and business to detect the early signs of termite activity.

They are difficult to spot, and it’s best to have a professional termite inspection carried out to develop an appropriate action plan. The following conditions can influence the risk grade associated with your property:

  • Termite exit holes. These can be found in any wooden component of your home as termites can dig their tunnels through any piece of wood. Termite holes are small and often hard to spot, especially when they are behind furniture. Unlike the exit holes of carpenter ants’ tunnels, termite exit holes don’t have any dust piles near them as the termites actually consume the wood and don’t throw it out.

  • Termite droppings. Termites may not leave dust piles but they do leave droppings like a lot of other animals and pests. These droppings can be hard to spot because of their miniature size but a termite inspector knows to look for them.

  • Discarded wings and other signs of swarmers. Especially after the swarming season when flying termites look for new nesting grounds, their discarded wings can sometimes be spotted on the ground.

  • Mud tubes. These above-ground tunnels are what termites often use to connect their subterranean colonies with their food sources above ground. These tunnels are typically made out of soil, wood and termite saliva. Most often found around the garage foundation in a new slab home or in the subarea below older homes.

  • Wood damage. Severe termite infestations can often lead to extensive wood damage. The sooner this is found the better.

  • Sings of higher moisture content in the walls. This isn’t a conclusive sign of termite presence but it’s a highly probably indicator.

  • Signs of termite activity in the soil surrounding the building. Termites can get into your home not only by flying through your window but also by extending their outdoor colonies into your home’s foundation.
